Most people are so obsessed with beauty and getting that “forever young” look. The cosmetic industry has taken advantage of this, coming out with numerous anti-wrinkle creams, serums, and other products promising to virtually erase the fine lines. Some people would even go to the extent of submitting themselves to regular botox injections, diamond peels, and face lifts (surgical or non-surgical).

Wrinkles are part of the aging process. The thing is, they are unsightly. Apparently, you would not want to wait to be in your golden years to start worrying about wrinkles. By then it would be difficult to erase them via natural means. They may be inevitable, but you can delay their onset by taking some preventive measures. Here are a few of them:

1. Use sunscreen. Wrinkle-causing free radicals develop following excessive and unprotected sun exposure. To block or at the very least limit the absorption of the UV rays into the skin, you must apply sunscreen in liberal amounts before you head outdoors.

2. Take in foods and beverages that contain loads of antioxidants. Antioxidants serve as your body’s defense against the free radicals. Berries, broccolis, tomatoes, red grapes, garlic, spinach, soy, whole grains, and carrots, are all abundant in antioxidants.

3. Moisturize using creams or lotions that contain antioxidants. A recommended after bath moisturizer is one that contains green tea (because of its antioxidant properties) and aloe vera (because of its soothing properties).

4. Wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when you have to go out. These would keep you from squinting which ultimately results to the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

5. If you are a smoker, you should consider quitting the habit. Smoking is bad for the environment, for your health, and for your skin. Smoking damages collagen, a protein that smoothens the skin.

6. Don’t pull or tug at the skin around your eyes while washing your face. Remember that the skin on the eye area is very fragile it tends to break more easily.

7. When applying makeup or moisturizer particularly around the eye area, use your weak finger (your ring finger in this case) as this limits the pressure on the area.

8. Laugh out loud. Go ahead, smile and laugh all you want. Not only does it make you feel good, laughing out loud also keeps you from frowning and squinting. Needless to say, you should avoid worrying too much. Nothing beats a happy disposition when it comes to keeping the years off your face.
