Learn to protect your skin from the sun and other elements. Some amount of sun is vital for good health and natural vitamin D, but overexposure to its rays can cause grave damage. Many people worship the sun and aren’t content without a beautiful tan. That is fine if you follow special tips that can keep you safe and your skin protected. Without proper safety, you can be prone to premature aging, skin cancer and other dangers affecting your skin and lips.

It is important to protect your skin from the sun and other elements. The weather and its seasonal changes have a huge effect on the condition of your skin.  Your skin may be one of your favored features, and is one of the body’s most prominent organs.  Without proper precautions, the sun and summer heat can cause serious skin damage and premature aging.  Many people love basking under the warm rays of the sun without realizing the dangers it can cause over time and how to protect your skin from the sun and other elements.

There are some strategies that you can follow during the summer months to promote healthier skin. Even though you may be a sun worshiper, it is imperative that you limit your time to its effects, especially during the peak hours when the sun is the strongest to protect your skin from the sun and other elements.  The sun’s rays are robust during the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. more than any other time of the day. Whether there is an overcast day or the sun is out in full force, your skin is prone to skin damage.  Ultraviolet rays penetrate through clouds and any present foggy conditions.

When heading out to enjoy the day, exposed to the rays of the sun, it is recommended that you protect the skin with sunscreen. To protect your skin from the sun and other elements, effectiveness should be at least at a range of SPF 15 or higher. Sunscreen comes in many varieties for your liking, such as sprays, lotions, wax sticks, gels, creams and ointments. For more appeal and glamour, some protection has glitter or a tint of color.

Apply the sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes prior to your exposure to the sun’s rays to protect your skin from the sun and other elements and put enough on to rub it in well. When out for a full day, spread liberal amounts of sunscreen on your face and body, reapplying it every two hours. Most sunscreens claim to be waterproof, but if you swim or sweat, it is best to follow the two hour rule for optimum protection.

If you do get overexposed under the sun, apply a cool compress to the burn, followed by a liberal application of aloe vera to protect your skin from the sun and other elements.  Avoid further sunning until your skin heals.  If getting a tan is important to your self-esteem, consider using a good, moisturizing self-tanner and apply evenly as directed.  For best results, use rubber or surgical gloves when applying to avoid tanning the palms of your hands.

Your lips are as prone to the sun’s rays as your skin, and should be protected from exposure. Use a lip balm with sunscreen protection of SPF 30 or higher, especially if there is a history of lip and skin cancer in your family.

To protect your skin from the sun and other elements, other strategies you can take to protect your skin from sun exposure are to stay covered.  Some ideas are to wear a wide-brimmed hat and covering your legs and arms with clothing. Some clothing is protected with sunscreen. When heat is excessive to wear so many clothes, use your umbrella from the sun’s elements.

Ladies can go further protect your skin from the sun and other elements and use special cosmetics to coat the skin with products that claim to have SPF and UV filtering protection. However, makeup cannot take the place of an effective sunscreen because these other products do not bind to the skin in the same way.  When combining sunscreen and makeup, they often do not retain full UV filtering.

Another consideration to protect your skin from the sun and other elements is the damage caused by a combination of other elements, such as chlorine, sea salt and constant sun rays. Such components can cause dehydration of the skin. Rinse off well after swimming and drink plenty of water.  One of the best things you can do for your skin is to keep it soft and supple by consuming ample amounts of water daily.  Also remember a good moisturizer as needed, one that works for your particular skin type, whether oily, dry or combination skin.
