Anti-Aging Skin Care

How fast your face will age depends on many different factors-most of which you are in control of. As a matter of fact the only aging factor that you cannot control is the type of skin you are born with. However, there are many ways to prevent skin from looking older than you feel.

If you are fair haired and your skin burns easily instead of bronzing, there is a good chance that you will end up with more wrinkles than someone with darker hair and skin. Darker skin is generally thicker and more oily, providing more protection from the aging effects of sunlight. But no matter what type of skin you have, there are plenty of ways to ward off the signs of aging.

Moisturize your skin. Each night before bed, clean your face with a gently exfoliating cleanser and apply a good quality night moisturizing cream while your skin is still slightly damp. The cream will trap moisture in the outer layers of skin, giving it a softer feel and giving fine lines a smoother look. Avoid exfoliating scrubs that contain things like ground apricot pits, as the large hard pieces can easily tear and damage delicate facial skin.

Moisturize the air. During the winter months, use a humidifier to moisten the air in your home, especially in the bedrooms. If you don`t have a vaporizer, place a bowl of water close to your floor heat register to add a little more moisture to the air.

Always wear sunscreen. Winter sun and sub-zero winds can damage unprotected skin just as quickly as the summer heat and sun can. Unprotected skin can become leathery and rough looking over time.

Wear sunglasses. No matter what time of year it is, there is sun in the sky, and squinting your eyes in the bright sunlight is a sure fire way to add crows feet to your appearance. If you wear prescription eyeglasses you may want to consider prescription sunglasses or switching to transitional lenses.

Avoid the heat. Heat can damage the connective tissues and fibers in skin and cause sagging. Try to avoid the heat of midday sun and be sure to use your blow dryer on a cooler setting.

Feed your skin. Like our bodies, healthy skin needs a healthy diet. Skin problems are sometimes the first sign of a poor diet or even vitamin deficiency. A diet rich in all of the B vitamins, vitamins A, C, E and Zinc will help skin stay healthy.

Take shorter cooler baths and showers. The more water our bodies are exposed to, the dryer our skin will become, and hot water strips the skin of all its natural oils. Try taking fewer, shorter cooler baths and showers.

Quit smoking. Smoking causes unattractive lines to appear around the mouth and eyes and can cause skin to take on a grayish tone.

Thanks for this well-researched article. To add to the anti-aging skin care tips, one should never forget to do facial or body exercises. For instance, the chin and jowls exercise. This is quite easy to do. You simply tilt your head up and bring the lower lip to cover the top lip. Extend the lower lip as far as you can. Do this for about five seconds and repeat four more time.
